As vowed Franciscan women, we follow the rule
and life of St. Francis of Assisi. Living the gospel, following in the
footprints of Jesus, and recognizing the goodness and hidden presence of God
in all of creation--these are the hallmarks of Franciscan
evangelical life. Our mission--to make
God's compassionate presence known--flows out of our Franciscan roots. In the
spirit of Francis, we are called to be "a caring, praying presence" and to
witness the four fundamental gospel values that Francis embodied in
particular--poverty, humility, conversion, and contemplation.
The writings of our foundress, Mother Mary Pacifica Forrestal, also reflect
our Franciscan heritage and reveal our community charism: to live the Gospel,
pray, suffer, love. Like St. Francis, the spirit of our community is
expressed in joy and simplicity. Following his example, we strive
to develop a deep prayer life, foster a strong community bond, and serve
others with respect and peace. Recognizing that the value of each person
lies in who they are, our congregation emphasizes the importance of
"being" rather than "doing." In all forms of service, we reverence the
person and believe that the ministry of "presence" is at the heart of all
our ministries.
